Art&Creativity: Designing icons in an iconic studio, the devil is in the details !
Cliff Laureys (Belgium)
Cliff Laureys is a senior 2D artist at Larian Studios. Born in Brussels in 1979, he spent most of his youth drawing comic books, watching cartoons and playing video games. He studied animation at the RITSC School of Arts in Brussels and graduated in 2002 with his 2D animated short based on Shel Silverstein's 'The Giving Tree'.
Two years later he got the chance to join Larian Studios for the project KetnetKick and has been working there ever since. For the last ten years he has specialised in the creation of game icons, symbols and logos for games such as Divinity: Original Sin and Baldur’s Gate III.
This talk will offer an inside look at the history of Larian Studios, its memory lane, from the early days (in particular) to the recent success of Baldur’s Gate III.
Cliff will focus on the art of video game iconography in general; the intricacies of depicting larger than life subjects in tiny little spaces but also more specifically on iconography (skills, items, …) of Larian’s latest games.
